UPDATE (12/31/16): We didn’t make it to the finals, but very much appreciated your support. It was great to reconnect with many of you!

Thanks to your votes, WE MADE IT TO THE SEMIFINAL ROUND! We now need your new votes to advance to the final round. Click HERE to vote until Sun, Dec 11.

Earlier this fall, all of YOU helped me win the Hothouse Jazz Fans Decision Award in the piano category.

Now I’m asking for your help in a contest that will help to provide seed money for my upcoming Brazilian project, the Nossa Senhora Suite:

Until Sun, Dec 11, you can rate my trio video (from a recent Jazz at Kitano gig) HERE at 7 Virtual Jazz Club. The ratings go from 1-7 (7 being the highest), and you must log in with your email and a password to vote. The one video in our “room” with the highest “global vote” score will enter the final round for a chance to win 4000 euros (the final round will be judged by a pre-selected jury).

On Dec 12, I’ll let you know if we’ve advanced to the finals! Thank you for your support.

Deanna wins the Hot House Jazz Fans Decision award and the Martin Luther Hymn Prize!

Earlier this week, I attended an awards ceremony at the Metropolitan Room in NYC for the fourth annual Hot House Fans Decision Jazz Award. I was one of five pianists nominated in the piano category.

Pianist/composer/record label owner Randy Klein came to the stage to introduce the winning pianist…and he called my name!

I want to express my gratitude to all of my fans who voted for me. Your support is very encouraging to me, and this specific recognition is because of you. Thank you!

In other news, I’m one of three composers chosen nationwide to receive the Martin Luther Hymn Prize, a commissioning contest sponsored by Lutheran Arts. I’ll collaborate with text writer, Jayne Southwick Cool, to compose a new hymn and choral anthem by March of next year. The finished music will be made available for public distribution at lutheranarts.org during 2017.

I’m excited to announce that my SSAA setting of the Rabindranath Tagore poem, “Where Shadow Chases Light,” is the newly named winner of the 2016 Illinois-ACDA Choral Composition Contest! The piece will be premiered and recorded on June 30 at the IL-ACDA Summer ReTreat at Illinois State University. I’ll be exhibiting my choral work at the conference, and look forward to connecting with new colleagues.

…and, in case you were wondering about the acronym: ACDA is the American Choral Directors’ Association.
